Description

This Veal Taco Crescent Ring is a delicious and fun Tex-Mex inspired main course that combines seasoned ground veal with melted cheese wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfect as a party centerpiece or a flavorful weeknight dinner, this easy-to-make recipe serves 6 and pairs wonderfully with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground veal
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup water

Cheese and Dough

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 2 (8 oz) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough

Additional Ingredients for Serving

  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream, for serving
  • Guacamole, for serving
  • Extra salsa, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Cook Onion, Garlic, and Veal: In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the ground veal and cook for 5–6 minutes, breaking it up until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat as necessary.
  3. Season the Meat Mixture: Stir in the taco seasoning and 1/3 cup of water. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let it cool a bit to avoid melting the cheese prematurely.
  4. Assemble Crescent Ring: Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles. Arrange the triangles in a circular pattern on the prepared baking sheet, overlapping the short edges in the center and pointing the tips outward to form a sunburst shape.
  5. Add Filling and Cheese: Spoon the cooked veal mixture evenly around the center of the dough ring. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and add a few spoonfuls of salsa over the cheese for added flavor and moisture.
  6. Fold and Seal: Carefully fold the pointed dough ends over the filling towards the center, tucking the tips underneath the ring to seal all contents inside securely.
  7. Bake: Place the ring in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked through.
  8. Rest and Garnish: Remove from the oven and let the ring rest for 5 minutes to set. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro if desired.
  9. Serve: Serve warm with sour cream, guacamole, and extra salsa on the side for dipping or topping.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground veal with ground beef, turkey, or plant-based crumbles to suit dietary preferences.
  • For extra heat, add diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce to the meat filling.
  • This recipe makes a fabulous party centerpiece or a fun and satisfying weeknight dinner option.
  • Ensure to let the filling cool slightly before adding cheese to avoid excessive melting and sogginess of the dough.
