Wet Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Add-ins
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Mash Bananas: In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until mostly smooth, ensuring no large lumps remain for an even texture.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: Whisk in the melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon to evenly distribute the leavening agents and spices.
- Incorporate Dry Into Wet: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
- Add Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Stir in the semisweet chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts evenly throughout the batter.
- Pour and Smooth Batter: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top evenly with a spatula for uniform baking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Cool: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes; then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots for extra flavor and natural sweetness.
- To make this recipe dairy-free, substitute melted coconut oil or a dairy-free butter alternative for the unsalted butter.
- Feel free to swap semisweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate chips according to your preference.
