Description

Delight in these homemade Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls featuring a soft, buttery dough infused with cinnamon and fresh diced strawberries, topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for a special breakfast or brunch, these rolls balance fruity freshness with classic cinnamon roll flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced

Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active. Stir in the granulated sugar, melted butter, and egg, mixing well. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a 12 by 18-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, then sprinkle this mixture evenly on top of the buttered dough. Distribute the diced fresh strawberries evenly over the cinnamon sugar layer. Carefully roll the dough tightly from one long edge to the other. Cut the resulting log into 12 equal slices. Arrange the slices into a greased 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Cover and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes to puff up.
  3. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish with the cinnamon rolls into the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the rolls turn golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before glazing.
  4. Prepare the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the glaze is smooth and pourable. Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm cinnamon rolls just before serving to add sweetness and moisture.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • You can substitute strawberries with blueberries or raspberries for a different fruity twist.
  • For a richer dough, use whole milk or add an extra egg yolk.
  • Make sure to let the rolls rise properly for a light and fluffy texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat rolls gently in the microwave or oven before serving.
