Description

This Sloppy Joe Cowboy Beans recipe combines seasoned ground beef, smoky bacon, and savory pork & beans in a rich tomato sauce, simmered to perfection for a hearty and flavorful dish that’s perfect for family meals or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp minced onion flakes
  • 1 (1.31-oz) packet sloppy joe seasoning

Sauce and Sweeteners

  • 1 (15-oz) can tomato sauce
  • ½ tsp white vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Additional Ingredients

  • ½ cup chopped cooked bacon (about ½ a pound cooked)
  • 3 (15-oz) cans pork & beans in tomato sauce, undrained

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it is no longer pink. Once cooked, drain the excess fat to keep the dish from being too greasy.
  2. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add the minced onion flakes, sloppy joe seasoning, tomato sauce, white vinegar, brown sugar, chopped cooked bacon, and three cans of undrained pork & beans to the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir everything together well to combine thoroughly.
  3. Simmer the Beans: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Notes

  • Cooking bacon ahead of time adds a smoky flavor but you can substitute with bacon bits for convenience.
  • Adjust the brown sugar amount according to your preferred level of sweetness.
  • Use a large enough skillet to prevent spilling when simmering.
  • This recipe can be doubled easily for larger gatherings.
