Description

A flavorful and quick Asian-inspired stir-fry combining tender slices of steak and succulent shrimp with vibrant vegetables and rice noodles, tossed in a savory soy-based sauce for a perfect weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Proteins

  • ½ pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • ½ pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

Noodles

  • 8 oz rice noodles or lo mein noodles

Sauces and Oils

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

Thickener

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Aromatics and Vegetables

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • ½ cup shredded carrots
  • ½ red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Optional Garnish

  • Sesame seeds
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Noodles: Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain, rinse with cold water to stop cooking, and set aside to keep them separate and prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Sauce and Coat Steak: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil to form the sauce mixture. In another bowl, toss the thinly sliced steak with cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of the prepared sauce to lightly coat the meat.
  3. Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the coated steak slices and sear for 2 to 3 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the same skillet. Cook the shrimp for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove shrimp and set aside with the steak.
  5. Sauté Aromatics and Vegetables: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add broccoli florets, shredded carrots, and sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes until they are crisp-tender.
  6. Combine and Toss: Add the cooked noodles and remaining sauce mixture to the skillet. Toss well to coat the noodles and vegetables evenly. Return the cooked steak and shrimp to the pan and toss everything together until heated through, about 2 minutes.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Top the stir-fry with sliced green onions, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and add a squeeze of lime if desired. Serve hot immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Feel free to swap broccoli, carrots, and bell pepper with other vegetables like snap peas, mushrooms, or baby corn based on preference.
  • For a spicy kick, add chili flakes or a dash of sriracha sauce to the sauce mixture.
  • Make sure to rinse noodles after cooking to prevent them from sticking together.
