Description

These Red Velvet Brownies combine the rich, chocolatey flavor of traditional brownies with the vibrant color and creamy texture of red velvet. Swirled with a luscious cream cheese mixture, these brownies are moist, decadent, and perfect for any special occasion or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to easily lift the brownies out after baking.
  2. Prepare the Brownie Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until combined. Add the egg, red food coloring, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Sift in the cocoa powder, salt, and flour, then stir until just combined. Fold in the white chocolate chips if using.
  3. Prepare the Cream Cheese Swirl: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, egg yolk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Dollop the cream cheese mixture on top and use a knife or toothpick to swirl it into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the baking dish. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper overhang, cut into squares, and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to avoid lumps in the swirl mixture.
  • Do not overmix the batter after adding the flour to keep brownies tender.
  • White chocolate chips are optional but add a lovely sweetness and texture.
  • Use parchment paper with overhang for easy removal of brownies from the pan.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
