Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry Roll
- 1 (17.25-oz) package frozen puff pastry, such as Pepperidge Farm (thawed)
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp water
Sausage Filling
- 1 lb pork sausage (uncooked)
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp ground sage
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Sausage Mixture: In a bowl, thoroughly combine the pork sausage with Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, ground sage, onion powder, and black pepper until evenly mixed. Divide this mixture into four equal portions.
- Cut Puff Pastry: Take each thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into two rectangular pieces to form a total of four rectangles.
- Assemble Sausage Rolls: Spread each sausage portion evenly down the center of each puff pastry rectangle. Brush the edges of the pastry with an egg wash made from the beaten egg and water to help seal the pastry securely.
- Seal and Portion: Fold the left and right pastry edges over the sausage to overlap in the middle, pressing down firmly to seal the seam. Using a sharp knife, cut each log into eight bite-sized pieces and place these rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Egg Wash on Top: Brush the tops and sides of all sausage rolls generously with the remaining egg wash to ensure a shiny, golden finish.
- Bake: Bake the sausage rolls in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is thoroughly thawed before assembly for easier handling and better puffing.
- Do not overfill the pastry to avoid leaks during baking.
- Serve warm with mustard or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
- You can substitute pork sausage with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
