Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs and Sauce
- 24 frozen precooked meatballs
- 2 cups spaghetti or pasta sauce
Buns and Toppings
- 12 mini whole wheat sandwich buns
- 3 tablespoons softened butter
- 24 pimento-stuffed olive slices
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatballs: In a medium saucepan, combine the frozen meatballs and spaghetti sauce. Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
- Heat the Meatballs: Cook the meatballs until they are fully heated through, about 6-7 minutes. If the sauce begins to stick to the pan, add 1-2 tablespoons of water to loosen it up.
- Set Aside: Once heated, remove the saucepan from heat, cover, and set aside to keep warm.
- Toast the Buns: Cut the sandwich buns in half. Spread softened butter evenly on each cut side.
- Broil or Bake the Buns: Toast the buns in the oven or under the broiler until they turn a light golden brown, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- Assemble the Monster Sandwiches: Place two warm meatballs topped with a spoonful of sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Add the ‘Eyeballs’: Top each meatball with a slice of pimento-stuffed olive to resemble “eyeballs.”
- Complete the Monster Face: Add the top half of the bun at an angle on top of the meatballs to create a “monster face.” Secure with a toothpick if needed, but be sure to remove toothpicks before serving.
- Serve: Serve the sandwiches immediately while warm and enjoy the fun monster-themed snack.
Notes
- Use mini whole wheat buns for a healthier touch and perfect size.
- If you don’t have pimento-stuffed olives, you can slice regular olives and add a small piece of roasted red pepper.
- Adding a splash of water during cooking helps keep the sauce from sticking or burning.
- These meatball sandwiches are great for parties, especially Halloween or kid-friendly events.
- To speed up preparation, you can warm the meatballs and sauce in a microwave before simmering on the stove.
