Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F or 43°C)
- 1/4 cup warm water (110°F or 43°C)
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Garlic Butter Topping
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: Combine warm milk, warm water, and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the instant yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture is frothy, confirming that the yeast is active.
- Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt together. Add the frothy yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter. Stir until a rough dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead by hand for 8-10 minutes, or knead using a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean towel and allow it to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size in volume.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release the air. Divide it into 12-16 equal portions and shape each into a tight ball. Arrange the dough balls evenly in a greased or parchment-lined baking dish, leaving slight space between them.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes, until they are puffed and nearly doubled in size.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls in the oven for 15-18 minutes until they develop a golden brown crust on top.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: While the rolls are baking, mix together the melted butter with minced garlic and freshly chopped parsley to create a flavorful garlic butter topping.
- Finish and Serve: Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture. Serve the rolls warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Make sure the milk and water are warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- Use fresh yeast for best results; expired yeast may not activate properly.
- For softer rolls, cover the dough well during rising and avoid drafts.
- The garlic butter can be adjusted for more or less garlic according to taste.
- If desired, sprinkle a little extra parsley or coarse salt on top before serving.
