Description

This hearty Kielbasa and Cabbage Soup combines smoky kielbasa sausage with tender cabbage, carrots, and a flavorful tomato broth. Perfect for a cozy meal, this soup is easy to prepare and packed with comforting flavors that warm you up from the inside out.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage, sliced

Vegetables

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 4 carrots, sliced

Liquids & Canned Goods

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)

Spices & Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the Kielbasa: In a large pot over medium heat, add the sliced kielbasa sausage and cook until it is nicely browned and releases its flavorful oils, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté them with the sausage until fragrant and the onion becomes translucent, approximately 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add Vegetables and Broth: Stir in the chopped cabbage and sliced carrots, then pour in the chicken broth and canned diced tomatoes. Add the paprika, salt, and pepper to season the soup well.
  4. Simmer the Soup: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 25-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the vegetables to become tender.
  5. Serve: Once the soup is ready, ladle it into bowls and serve hot to enjoy a warming and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute smoked sausage if kielbasa is unavailable.
  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes along with paprika.
  • Adding potatoes can make the soup heartier.
  • Leftovers taste great the next day as flavors develop further.
  • This soup freezes well for up to 3 months.
