Description

This Hot Honey Mango Tajín Margarita is a vibrant and spicy twist on the classic margarita, featuring a luscious mango purée blended with hot honey and Tajín spice. Perfectly balanced with fresh lime juice, Cointreau, and your choice of spirit, this cocktail is both refreshing and fiery, ideal for those who enjoy a touch of heat with their sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mango Purée

  • 1 cup frozen organic mango chunks
  • 12 tsp hot honey
  • Pinch of chili powder (optional)

For the Margarita

  • 2 oz spirit of your choice (tequila recommended)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • ¾ oz Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
  • ½ cup mango purée (prepared above)
  • 1 cup ice

For Garnish and Rim

  • Tajín for the rim
  • Lime wedge for garnish
  • 1 dried árbol pepper
  • Additional hot honey for drizzling inside the glass

Instructions

  1. Make the Mango Purée: Blend the frozen mango chunks, hot honey, and chili powder (if using) until smooth. If the purée is too thick, add a splash of water or lime juice to achieve the desired consistency.
  2. Rim the Glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into Tajín, ensuring the entire rim is evenly coated with the spice for that signature tangy and spicy flavor.
  3. Mix the Margarita: For a frozen margarita, blend the spirit, lime juice, Cointreau, mango purée, and ice until smooth. Alternatively, for a shaken margarita, combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake vigorously, and strain into the Tajín-rimmed glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Garnish & Serve: Drizzle some hot honey inside the glass for an extra burst of sweetness and heat. Rinse and deseed the dried árbol pepper to reduce its spiciness before adding it to the drink, or leave the seeds in if you prefer a more intense heat. Finish by garnishing with a fresh lime wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of hot honey and chili powder to control the level of sweetness and spiciness in the mango purée.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor impact; bottled lime juice can affect the cocktail’s zing.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for serving multiple guests.
  • If you prefer a less spicy drink, omit the dried árbol pepper garnish or remove its seeds before using.
  • The spirit of your choice can be tequila, mezcal, or any clear liquor that pairs well with mango and citrus flavors.
