Description
This homemade strawberry sauce is a quick and easy way to add a burst of fresh, sweet flavor to your desserts, pancakes, or yogurt. Made from fresh or frozen strawberries simmered with sugar and a touch of lemon juice, it can be left chunky or blended smooth, with an optional cornstarch thickener for a luscious consistency.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to evenly coat the strawberries with sugar.
- Cook Strawberries: Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes until the strawberries start to release their juices and soften.
- Thicken Sauce (Optional): For a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry and stir it into the saucepan. Continue to simmer the sauce for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Adjust Texture: Remove the saucepan from heat. For a chunky sauce, leave it as is, or mash/blend to achieve a smoother texture.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving. Use as a topping on pancakes, ice cream, or desserts.
Notes
- You can adjust the sugar amount depending on the sweetness of your strawberries and your preference.
- Using frozen strawberries works well when fresh ones are not in season.
- The lemon juice adds brightness and balances the sweetness.
- If you want a completely smooth sauce, use a blender or immersion blender after cooking.
- Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
