Description

Make delicious, restaurant-style Big Macs right at home with this easy recipe featuring juicy beef patties, a zesty special sauce, and the classic three-part sesame seed bun structure. Perfect for a quick and satisfying homemade version of the iconic fast food burger.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Buns & Cheese

  • 3 sesame seed buns (for the three-part structure of a Big Mac)
  • 6 slices American cheese

Vegetables & Toppings

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 cup sliced pickles

Special Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons French dressing
  • 1 tablespoon sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, white vinegar, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended. Set this sauce aside while preparing the patties.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion into thin, round patties that are slightly larger than the buns to accommodate shrinkage during cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Toast the Buns: Slice each sesame seed bun into three parts: top, bottom, and middle. Lightly toast all bun parts in a dry skillet or in the oven until golden and slightly crispy to enhance texture and prevent sogginess from the sauce.
  4. Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each beef patty for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until your preferred doneness is reached. Place a slice of American cheese on each patty during the final minute to allow it to melt perfectly.
  5. Assemble the Big Mac: Start with the bottom bun and spread a generous layer of special sauce. Add a handful of shredded lettuce, a few slices of pickles, and some chopped onions. Place one cheesy beef patty on top. Then add the middle bun layer. Repeat the layering with more special sauce, lettuce, pickles, onions, and the second cheeseburger patty. Finally, crown your creation with the top bun.
  6. Serve: Carefully slice the assembled Big Mac in half. Serve immediately with your favorite fries or chips for a complete fast food experience at home.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef with an 80/20 fat ratio for juicy and flavorful patties.
  • To avoid buns becoming soggy, toast them lightly until crisp before assembling.
  • Adjust seasoning of the special sauce to suit your taste preferences.
  • You can prepare the special sauce ahead of time to let the flavors meld together.
  • Ensure patties are thin for a more authentic Big Mac texture and fast cooking time.
