Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup tomato sauce or salsa
For Assembly
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 6 large flour tortillas
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Sour cream
- Hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the skillet: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the vegetables.
- Sauté onion: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and translucent, stirring occasionally.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
- Cook ground beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned all over, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed to reduce greasiness.
- Season the beef: Sprinkle in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine the spices evenly with the meat.
- Add tomato sauce or salsa: Pour in tomato sauce or salsa and stir well. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes to meld the flavors and heat through.
- Warm tortillas: Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over low heat or microwave them for a few seconds until soft and flexible to avoid tearing when wrapping.
- Assemble the wraps: Spoon the seasoned beef mixture down the center of each warmed tortilla. Top with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and hot sauce if desired.
- Roll the wraps: Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling and roll tightly from one end to the other to form a neat wrap.
- Serve: Serve the wraps warm immediately, or if desired, crisp them by placing seam-side down in a hot skillet for 1–2 minutes per side for a golden crust.
Notes
- For a crispy texture, grill the wraps seam-side down in a hot skillet for 1–2 minutes per side.
- These wraps make great meal prep options — store the beef filling separately and assemble just before serving to keep tortillas fresh.
- Customize toppings to your taste, such as adding avocado slices, jalapeños, or fresh cilantro.
- Use whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas to make this recipe suitable for different dietary needs.
