Description

This Garlic Parmesan Chicken Steak Bake paired with Cheesy Loaded Mashed Potatoes is a hearty and comforting American main course. Tender chicken breasts are seasoned with garlic and Italian herbs, topped with Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, then baked to golden perfection. The creamy mashed potatoes are enhanced with cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, sour cream, and green onions, creating a deliciously indulgent side dish. Perfect for a satisfying family dinner that’s both flavorful and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

For the chicken steak bake:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

For the cheesy loaded mashed potatoes:

  • pounds Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup whole milk (warmed)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions or chives
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mashed potatoes: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the peeled and cubed potatoes, cooking for 15–20 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add sour cream, warm milk, shredded cheddar cheese, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash the mixture until creamy and smooth. Stir in the crumbled bacon and chopped green onions. Cover to keep warm until serving.
  2. Cook the chicken steak bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels and place them in a lightly greased baking dish. Drizzle the olive oil evenly over each breast. Season each with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the chicken breasts, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through and the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden. For extra color and a crispy top, broil the chicken for an additional 2–3 minutes. Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
  3. Serve: Plate the hot garlic Parmesan chicken steaks alongside a generous scoop of the cheesy loaded mashed potatoes. Enjoy this comforting and hearty meal immediately.

Notes

  • Slice each chicken breast after baking for easier serving.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the chicken seasoning before baking.
  • The mashed potatoes can be made ahead of time and reheated with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
