Description

This Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash recipe features tender sirloin or ribeye steak cubes seared to perfection and coated in a fragrant garlic butter sauce, served over creamy, buttery mashed potatoes. Ideal for an easy yet impressive American-style main course, this meal combines savory, rich flavors with a comforting texture for a satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak Bites:

  • pounds sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or parsley
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes into a large pot and cover them with cold salted water. Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes for 15 to 20 minutes until they are fork-tender. Drain the potatoes thoroughly, return them to the pot, then add the warm milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy, then cover the pot to keep the mash warm while you cook the steak bites.
  2. Cook the Steak Bites: Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels, then season evenly with salt and black pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, sear the steak bites for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they develop a browned, caramelized crust and reach your preferred doneness. Remove the steak bites from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. Create the Garlic Butter Sauce: Reduce the skillet heat to medium and add the butter. Once the butter is melted, stir in the minced garlic and thyme or parsley. Cook this mixture for 1 to 2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Toss Steak Bites in Garlic Butter: Return the cooked steak bites back to the skillet and gently toss them in the garlic butter sauce, coating each piece evenly with the flavorful mixture.
  5. Serve: Plate a generous serving of mashed potatoes and top with the garlic butter-coated steak bites. Spoon any remaining garlic butter from the skillet over the dish for extra richness. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For added richness and creaminess, stir in a dollop of sour cream or roasted garlic into the mashed potatoes.
  • To elevate tenderness, use filet mignon or New York strip steaks instead of sirloin or ribeye.
  • Garnish the finished dish with freshly chopped parsley or chives to add a pop of color and fresh herb flavor.
