Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 12 ounces fettuccine pasta
Shrimp and Seasoning
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, plus additional to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus additional to taste
Sauce
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish and Optional
- Chopped parsley for garnish
- Lemon wedges for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccine and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta and set aside.
- Sauté the Shrimp: While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the peeled and deveined shrimp with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the Alfredo Sauce: In the same skillet, melt 1/2 cup unsalted butter over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned. Pour in the heavy cream and gently bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir in the freshly grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Season the sauce with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, adjusting to taste.
- Toss Pasta with Sauce: Add the cooked fettuccine to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a small amount of the reserved pasta water a little at a time to loosen it to your desired consistency.
- Combine Shrimp and Serve: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss everything together until heated through and well combined. Serve the fettuccine Alfredo warm, garnished with chopped parsley and lemon wedges on the side if desired.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting quality and authentic flavor.
- For an extra layer of richness, you can stir in a splash of white wine or an egg yolk into the sauce before serving.
- If you don’t have fettuccine, linguine or tagliatelle are excellent substitutes for this recipe.
