Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 2 pieces of bazlama (Turkish flatbread)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon butter
Cheese & Flavorings
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Turkish kasar cheese
- 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
For Cooking
- Olive oil or butter for brushing
Instructions
- Prepare the eggs: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Crack in the eggs, season with salt and pepper, and scramble gently until just set but still soft and slightly undercooked, as they will finish cooking inside the bread.
- Mix in cheeses and parsley: Remove the eggs from heat and immediately stir in the shredded mozzarella (or kasar cheese), crumbled feta if using, and chopped parsley for added freshness.
- Prepare the bazlama bread: Slice each bazlama horizontally to create a pocket or split open one edge without cutting completely through, similar to a pita bread pocket.
- Stuff the bread: Evenly fill the inside of each bazlama with the egg and cheese mixture, spreading it to cover the interior.
- Toast the stuffed bread: Heat a clean skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly brush with olive oil or butter. Place the stuffed bazlama in the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the crust is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese inside has melted.
- Serve: Slice the stuffed bazlama into portions and serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Perfect for breakfast or brunch and can be customized with additional ingredients like sautéed onions, spinach, or chopped tomatoes.
- If preferred, bake the stuffed bread in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes instead of pan-toasting for an alternative cooking method.
- Use Turkish kasar cheese if available for a more authentic taste, otherwise mozzarella works well.
