Filling:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage (cooked and crumbled)
- 1 small onion (diced)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Dough Preparation: Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit until foamy. Add flour, cornmeal, salt, and olive oil. Knead until elastic. Let rise for 1 hour.
- Filling: Cook onion in olive oil until soft. Add garlic, tomatoes, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
- Assembly: Press dough into greased pan. Layer mozzarella, sausage, tomato sauce, and Parmesan. Bake at 425°F for 25–30 minutes.
