Ingredients
Scale
Pastry Base
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
Cheesecake Filling
- ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips or crushed cookies (optional)
Coating and Cooking
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- Nonstick spray or butter (for waffle iron)
Instructions
- Preheat Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron to medium heat and lightly grease it with nonstick spray or butter to ensure the croffles don’t stick during cooking.
- Prepare Cheesecake Mixture: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: On a floured surface, slightly roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 4 equal squares for individual croffles.
- Fill Pastry Squares: Spoon a portion of the cheesecake mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square and optionally sprinkle with mini chocolate chips or crushed cookies for added texture and flavor.
- Shape the Croffles: Fold each pastry square over like a turnover or gently roll it up, pressing lightly to seal the edges and encase the filling securely.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Coating: Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then roll or press the outside of each pastry in this mixture to coat evenly.
- Cook in Waffle Iron: Place one or two coated pastries at a time into the preheated waffle iron and cook for 4 to 6 minutes, or until they have puffed up, turned golden, and become crisp.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the croffles carefully and let them cool slightly before serving to enjoy their perfect crispy texture and creamy filling.
Notes
- Top with a drizzle of chocolate, caramel sauce, or fresh berries for an extra decadent finish.
- These croffles are best enjoyed warm and crisp but can be reheated in a toaster oven for convenience.
