Description

Caramel Apple Bites are a delightful, bite-sized treat combining the crisp sweetness of fresh apples with rich, melted caramel and crunchy pretzels. Perfect for parties or snacking, these easy-to-make bites feature a delicious mix of textures and flavors that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 38 mini twist or snap-style pretzels
  • 1 bag Kraft caramels (about 3640 caramels)
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 red apple

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) to prepare for melting the caramel on the pretzels.
  2. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  3. Arrange Pretzels: Place the 38 mini pretzels on the baking sheet, spacing them apart to ensure even heating.
  4. Add Caramels: Unwrap each caramel and place one on the center of each pretzel, ready to melt.
  5. Bake Caramels: Bake the pretzels with caramels for 10 minutes until the caramel has softened and melted.
  6. Prepare Apples: While baking, clean, dry, core, and chop the green and red apples into pieces that are about 1 to 1½ inches. Leave the peel on for added texture and color. Soak the pieces briefly in water or Sprite to keep them from browning.
  7. Insert Toothpicks: After removing from the oven, insert a toothpick into the top of each apple piece with the peel side facing up. The toothpick should extend slightly from the bottom for easy handling.
  8. Assemble Bites: Press each apple piece with a toothpick gently into the melted caramel atop each pretzel, flattening slightly so the apple adheres well and covers more of the pretzel.
  9. Set and Serve: Allow the caramel apple bites to rest for at least 5 minutes so the caramel firms up a little before serving. Enjoy this fun, sweet treat at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use a mix of green and red apples for colorful presentation and a balance of tart and sweet flavors.
  • Soaking the apple pieces in Sprite or water helps prevent browning and maintains freshness.
  • For easier serving, ensure toothpicks are securely inserted and extend sufficiently to avoid slipping.
  • Store leftovers in a cool place to keep the caramel from becoming too sticky.
  • Can be made ahead and refrigerated; bring to room temperature before serving.
