Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter Mixture
- 1 loaf ciabatta bread, horizontally cut in half
- 4 tablespoons salted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Toppings
- 12 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/3 cup chopped fresh basil
Balsamic Reduction
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place both halves of the ciabatta bread on a large baking sheet with the cut side facing up to prepare for the garlic butter application and baking.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the salted butter with the minced garlic, mixing thoroughly to create a flavorful garlic butter spread. Evenly spread this garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the ciabatta bread.
- Assemble and Bake: Arrange the fresh mozzarella slices evenly over the buttered bread halves, ensuring complete coverage to guarantee a cheesy melt. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes until the mozzarella is fully melted and slightly bubbly.
- Make Balsamic Reduction: While the bread bakes, pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the vinegar reduces by half and thickens into a syrupy consistency. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Top the Bread: Once the bread is out of the oven, immediately add the sliced tomatoes on top of the melted mozzarella. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your taste, and sprinkle the chopped fresh basil generously over the top.
- Finish and Serve: Drizzle the prepared balsamic reduction evenly over the topped bread. Cut the ciabatta into individual slices and serve warm to enjoy the perfect blend of flavors and textures.
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality mozzarella for best melt and flavor.
- The balsamic reduction can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For a spicy twist, add red pepper flakes on top with the tomatoes.
- Serve immediately while the cheese is warm and melty for the best experience.
