Description

A spicy and cheesy twist on the classic cheesesteak, this Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak features tender buffalo sauce-coated chicken, caramelized onions, and peppers topped with melted provolone cheese, all nestled in a toasted hoagie roll. Perfect for game day or a flavorful weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Sauce

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce

Vegetables

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced

Sandwich Assembly

  • 4 hoagie rolls, split and lightly toasted
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing for serving
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced chicken breasts, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 6–7 minutes until the chicken is browned and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add buffalo sauce: Stir in the buffalo sauce, tossing the chicken to coat evenly. Remove from heat.
  3. Sauté vegetables: In a separate skillet, sauté the sliced onion and green bell pepper over medium heat until softened and caramelized, about 8 minutes.
  4. Prepare the rolls: Preheat your broiler on low. Place the hoagie rolls split-side up on a baking sheet and lightly toast if not already done.
  5. Assemble sandwiches: Layer the buffalo chicken, sautéed onions, and peppers evenly inside each hoagie roll.
  6. Add cheese and broil: Top each sandwich with 2 slices of provolone cheese. Place under the broiler for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven, drizzle sandwiches with ranch or blue cheese dressing, sprinkle with chopped parsley if using, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra heat, use hotter buffalo sauce or add sliced jalapeños.
  • Swap provolone cheese with mozzarella or pepper jack cheese for a different flavor.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free hoagie rolls.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
