Description

These Asian Turkey Meatballs are a flavorful and healthy twist on classic meatballs, featuring ground turkey mixed with aromatic garlic, green onions, and sesame oil. Baked to golden perfection and coated in a savory hoisin-soy sauce, they make a quick and delicious meal perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper to prevent the meatballs from sticking.
  2. Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped green onions, egg, sesame oil, and low sodium soy sauce. Mix just until the ingredients are combined to maintain tender meatballs.
  3. Shape Meatballs: Form the mixture into 12 evenly sized meatballs. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet to ensure even cooking.
  4. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the meatballs for 15 to 20 minutes. Flip them halfway through baking to achieve an even golden brown color and ensure they are cooked through.
  5. Make the Sauce: While the meatballs bake, in a small bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, low sodium soy sauce, water, and sesame oil until smooth and well combined.
  6. Coat the Meatballs: Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to a bowl and toss them in the prepared sauce, making sure each meatball is well coated with the flavorful glaze.
  7. Serve: Garnish the meatballs with additional sesame seeds and green onions if desired. Serve these meatballs as they are or over a bed of rice or noodles for a complete Asian-inspired meal.

Notes

  • Panko breadcrumbs can be substituted with regular breadcrumbs if needed.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • These meatballs can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • To ensure even cooking, make meatballs of uniform size.
  • Ground chicken can be used as an alternative to turkey.
