Description

These Asian Turkey Meatballs are a flavorful and healthy twist on traditional meatballs, combining lean ground turkey with aromatic garlic, green onions, and a savory hoisin-soy sauce. Baked to golden perfection, these meatballs are easy to prepare and perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped green onions, egg, sesame oil, and low sodium soy sauce. Mix the ingredients gently until just combined to keep the meatballs tender.
  3. Shape Meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into 12 evenly sized meatballs. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the meatballs for 15 to 20 minutes. Flip them halfway through the baking time so they cook evenly. They should be golden brown and cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Make the Sauce: While the meatballs bake, combine hoisin sauce, low sodium soy sauce, water, and sesame oil in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and well blended.
  6. Coat the Meatballs: Once the meatballs are finished baking, transfer them to a bowl and toss with the prepared sauce until they are thoroughly coated.
  7. Serve: Optionally garnish with sesame seeds and extra chopped green onions. Serve the meatballs on their own or over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken or pork if preferred.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs and tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Make sure not to overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
  • Check the internal temperature of the meatballs to ensure they are fully cooked (165°F or 74°C).
  • These meatballs freeze well, so make extra and save for a quick meal later.
