Description

These Apple Pie Egg Rolls are a delightful fusion of classic apple pie flavors wrapped in crispy, golden egg roll wrappers. Perfect for a fall dessert or anytime you crave a crunchy, sweet treat, they feature tender cinnamon-spiced apples cooked in butter and brown sugar, then fried to perfection. Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar and enjoy with caramel sauce for an irresistible indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Egg Rolls

  • 8 egg roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for topping
  • Caramel sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the diced apples. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the apples are softened and fragrant. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir to thicken the filling. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before assembling.
  2. Assemble the Egg Rolls: Place one egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner pointing toward you in a diamond shape. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling near the bottom corner. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold the sides inward, and tightly roll up the wrapper. Seal the edge with a dab of water. Repeat this process for all wrappers and filling.
  3. Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, pour oil to a depth of about 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), using a thermometer for accuracy.
  4. Fry the Egg Rolls: Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each egg roll for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to turn and remove them.
  5. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried egg rolls and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. While still warm, dust them with powdered sugar or roll in cinnamon sugar. Serve them as is or with caramel sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a healthier alternative, you can bake the egg rolls by brushing them lightly with oil and baking at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Air frying is also an option: cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until crispy.
  • Make sure the apple filling is cooled slightly before wrapping to prevent the wrappers from tearing.
  • Use tart apples like Granny Smiths for a balanced sweet-tart flavor.
  • Store leftover egg rolls in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
