Description

Delicious and crispy air fryer fried chicken that’s healthier than traditional fried chicken but just as tasty. Marinated in buttermilk and a blend of spices, this recipe results in perfectly cooked, golden-brown chicken pieces with a satisfying crunch.

  • 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, or breasts)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

For the Coating:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken pieces, toss to coat, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Coating: In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne.
  3. Dredge the Chicken: Remove chicken from marinade, coat in flour mixture.
  4. Air Fry: Preheat air fryer, spray basket with oil, arrange chicken, air fry, flip halfway through cooking.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let chicken rest before serving.
