Ingredients
Scale
Apple Fries
- 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Cooking spray or oil spray
For Dipping (Optional)
- Caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin fry-shaped sticks. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture, ensuring a crispy coating.
- Set Up Breading Station: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk the egg with milk until smooth. In a third bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon.
- Coat the Apple Fries: Dredge each apple slice first in flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with the cinnamon-sugar panko mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and preheat for 3 minutes. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking.
- Air Fry the Apple Fries: Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the basket without overcrowding. Lightly spray the tops with oil. Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even crisping, until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the apple fries and serve warm with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping, if desired.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double coat the apple fries by repeating the egg and panko coating steps before air frying.
- Serve the apple fries immediately for the best texture and flavor, as they are crispest when warm.
